Does anyone know of any papers where they have used HEK293T cells which do not contain Adenovirus E gene. I understand early 293 cells did not contain E genes but I am unable to find papers relating to this.
Frank Graham, then a post-doctoral fellow in Leiden University Medical Center (working in the van der Eb lab) created HEK293 cells by immortalizing primary human fetal kidney cells with sheared Ad5 DNA. The immortalized clone contains 4344 bp from the "left end" of the Ad5 genome (i.e., all of the E1 orfs). So it is not correct to say that "early 293 cells did not contain E genes(sic)".
