ResearchGate is a social networking site for scientists and researchers to share papers, ask and answer questions, and find collaborators and people who wish to use the site need to have an email address at a recognized institution or to be manually confirmed as a published researcher in order to sign up for an account.

So, when a question appears on this site (like you have addressed above), this will weaken the purpose for which the site was designed.

Man is the “animal” of society. It is peculiar to him to communicate with himself like “animals”. The Internet provides for this, in fact, unlimited possibilities. The whole question is whether this communication is at a high quality level. If we are talking about the RG, then based on my experience, I can conclude that the level of this communication is really of high quality. What is the reason for this? One reason is sufficiently obvious: the RG unites the community of scientists, that is, people who, by virtue of their professional duties, should be able to even think a little. Thinking people and behave pretty well. The second reason is the sufficiently high qualification of the team of people who was able to organize the RG-site, and accordingly, in the functional quality of this site. Now, a few words about friends. I’m not sure that the concept of a boyfriend or girlfriend for the RG is generally applicable. That’s why, in particular, the word “animal” above I took in quotes. I do not think that the word “friend” in general can be applied to a virtual communication. Still, friends are those people with whom you communicate at least directly with your eyes to their eyes, for example, at a common table. Nevertheless, this fact does not detract from the importance of our general communication in the RG, which, I hope, leads to mutual intellectual enrichment. In other social networks of the Internet, I do not participate. So, Glory to the RG!

In the early days of the appearance of SNSs, there was an SNS site with blogging service in Japan. I made a few friends who wrote good proses and essays there, and the friendship continues until today. I also have nice, overseas friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Have you made some friend(s) over the internet?

Yes I did make some friends through Internet.  Just personal experience - finding virtual friendships are not as credible vs friendship established via face to face / physical interaction.  May be finding the latter is more real or sometimes it is "what you see is what you get" vs virtual friendship in which I usually give some benefits of doubt first before further genuine friendship developed.

meeting is 9 times more effective than discussion through social media and plate forms like RG. as during that you are going to finalize the proper solution for a problem by utilizing different brains instead of routers...

Everybody makes friends over internet via SNS. But if the question is about long term friendship over internet, that is hard to find. However, if we happen to have some long term and real friendship because of internet, that is a rare case. For really having true friends, one has to know them personally.

Long term and sustained friendship is a possibility but somefactors must exist to harness this friendship.Research collaboration can be a potent factor.

Dear Alaa,

Go and recheck the available questions here in RG platform and the amazing interaction between different academicians including professors, you will find miscellaneous posts including social post like this, we have to take some refresh here with high level of ethics. Really such a post improve our English writing and encourage us to express his ideas in accordance with many questions and adding many vocabularies, especially for the Non-English native speakers including me.

In case of you would not share your social comment, please leave our social questions and go to your professional ones.!!

Not impossible! Most especially when there is a strong network of focus and mutual scientific/ideas advantages.

 This question is somewhat tricky....

Mostly we make stronger bond with those who already are our friends... with the help of internet.....this is my opinion.

Unless you really think in that line and make some effort....you just cant make friends over internet just because you see each other on some platform like RG/ TWITTER/ or Face book.

They appear familiar to you....as you come across them quite often....but familiarity is nothing to do with real friends or friendship.
