The extension should start with four broad changes:

Several other things should be changed as well. I suggest throwing out the old introduction, outlining a new introduction, and then writing it completely from a blank page. Again, if the reviewers have read the introduction before, you are almost asking them to reject the paper on the basis of not enough new material.

Add additional related work. Add a lot of additional related work! Conference papers are almost always limited to 8 to 10 pages, and we often make our related work section as short as possible to leave room for the “good stuff” (our ideas). With a journal version, you have much more space to write, so use it. Journal reviewers are much more likely to criticize not having enough references than having too many references.

Add more examples and explanations. Add more data in the form of tables and figures. Reflect on all the hard decisions you made when forcing the conference paper into a small box, and put some of that material back in. The editor or reviewers will do a side‐by‐side comparison of the conference and journal papers. You want it to look as if the conference paper was the primitive or immature version, and the journal paper is all grown up. You emphatically do not want the journal version to look like the same paper with a few sentences added here and there.

Finally, rewrite everything. Clean up the writing, polish the sentence structure, check the grammar and punctuation again, and edit, edit, edit. My favorite writing teacher told me there are no great writers, just great editors.

Absolutely you can. However, publishing in quality journals require significant improvements to the conference paper.

It is suggested to follow the instructions of the scientific journal to be publish in it, some scientific journals put an item that refuses to be submitted in any form or any method

Dear Prof Emad, it is absolutely possible, although this depends on the discipline. In social sciences, most proceedings publish only abstracts and not full papers. Check what is obtainable in your research field and go ahead with it. I wish you well.

I think we have two cases:

The first, the conference paper was/will be published in the conference proceeding with a copy rights signed by authors.

In this case you should modify the paper and expand it to be submitted to an international journal. as you know the conference paper is a short written paper. you can expand it with more analysis, discussions etc.

Case 2: the the authors did not signed any copy rights to the conference committee.

In this case you still have the rights to publish the paper elsewhere. During the submission process to the journal, you should clearly specify that the paper was presented in a conference. For some international journals, you can find a check box that mainly checked if the paper was presented in a conference.

In all cases you can expand your work to meet the requirements of the international journal then submit it.

I do not think this is acceptable, because the accepted research in any scientific conference will make that research an acquired right for the scientific conference. The research accepted in the scientific conferences is published in a special issue of the conference and therefore it should not be published in another magazine.

Conference paper need to be improved substantially before it may be considered for journal . If only abstract is published in conference then also one has to improve paper and add additional research work.

As far as I have seen Emad, journal is more of depth vs conference is not . So , if you edit the conference paper content and make it more in-depth then it can be. Also , journals have fair amount of "theoretical" understanding in terms of equations /math models etc that should fit your kind of result or analysis .

Obviously , if the conference paper is already published then you have to have to change the wordings etc etc , else it will be some sort of plagiarized work (yep , your own ) . It makes sense , because it goes to show lack of creativity (in writing) .

In Iraq, this can not be done. The search will be checked through plagiarism programs. Therefore, due to the publication of research in the scientific publication and journal of the conference, this means that it can not be used again, especially in the field of scientific promotions.

In any seminar of conference with the fix date decide for the topic of conference & the invites prepare their paper in the conference & for the topic quite good discussion & the suggestive action may take place .

It is generally a good practice if the nature of seminar of the conference is known in the people & if any article is published in the paper it is desirable that readers may view the topic & in certain cases it may be observed that it may be a training ground for the students .

From what I understand, the question is whether can a conference of a publication be made without violating copyright? If so, I make the following considerations:

• If the work is his responsibility and elaborates didactic slides or a video presentation of it, there is no problem.
• The work in question, surely if it has quality and the format requested by the scientific journals, will be published.
• If so, you would have the same work, a presentation (or conference) and a published work, referring to the same content.
• If the published work is not your responsibility, but you are interested in disseminating its content through a conference; you will depend on how you handle the format of the presentation, as long as you credit the author or authors of the publication.
• If the situation is contrary, and someone makes a presentation or conference of an article already published, then they should give the corresponding credit.

Por lo que entiendo, la cuestión es de si ¿se puede hacer una conferencia de una publicación, sin violar derechos de autor? De ser así, hago las siguientes consideraciones:

• Si el trabajo es de su autoría y elabora diapositivas didácticas o una presentación en video del mismo, no hay ningún problema.
• El trabajo en cuestión, seguramente si tiene calidad y el formato solicitado por las revistas científicas, será publicado.
• De ser así, tendría usted de un mismo trabajo, una presentación (o conferencia) y un trabajo publicado, haciendo referencia al mismo contenido.
• Si el trabajo publicado no es de su autoría, pero a usted le interesa difundir su contenido por medio de una conferencia; de usted dependerá la forma como maneje el formato de la presentación, siempre y cuando de crédito al autor o autores de la publicación.
• Si la situación es contraria, y alguien hace una ponencia o conferencia de un artículo suyo ya publicado, entonces deben de darle el crédito correspondiente.

Conferences serve as an excellent forum for presentation and exchange of new ideas. You may also get an opportunity to mingle with experts and fellow workers in your specialization. However, presentation in a conference in oral or poster form cannot be equated with a written paper on the subject in a reputed journal.

Conference reports are normally not subjected to peer review, and because of any real quality control, most publishers and institutions give “Conference Proceedings” paper a low status only. If the conference reports are not in full proceedings form (papers with the IMRAD (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion) structure, peer reviewed, and with the questions and answers at the conference), it is not considered as a valid publication. If this is the case, you have to check the copyright, and probably you have to ask for permission.

If the report is in “abstract” or “extended abstract” form, it is clear that it is not validly published; therefore, you have the freedom to publish the data in a regular primary journal.

You can approach the ‘conference’ in a different way. Both oral and poster presentations in conferences can be used to report ongoing works. This gives the researcher an opportunity to disseminate new findings and to get valuable feedback from the audience. Conference presentations are also useful for the preparation of the paper for later publication because the audience’s questions may probe weaknesses in the work or the researcher’s account of it, and shows where s/he needs to expand and explain.

If conference paper is published only in the publishing conference as a summary , you can re publish it in a journal with changing the title. But if complete conference paper is published, you can't do it.

It is a very common trend in many fields of research to publish abstract and reading paper in scientific conferences after getting the result of the experiment/s.

Afterwards, the results are added with more findings and analysed properly and it is then send as a complete article with different heading to a journal for publication.

Yes, you can. Many of my papers were published by adding more data to the conference paper. However, the title has to be changed and the conference paper removed from your list of publications. This would prevent double counting. Thank you

Yes it is possible in many ways. For example, some conferences can immediately select papers to be published in a journal that will be hosting the event if the papers have a quality of work and interesting findings. In other way, after presenting your paper and if some fellow recommend it for journal's publication, then you need to do some changes in certain parts of it like updating the results, add some discussion, update the literature review and etc after then you can submit it to the journal. These are just 2 ways of many.

Yes. Presenting a research at a conference at times stands as Preliminary Report of an ongoing study. Making it into a Journal article then follows. Most times, Conference presentations are pre-testing of the main manuscript to be submitted for publication considerations.
