I plan to lable the proliferating cells in E10-E16 mouse embryos with BrdU. So I fed pregnant females (C57BL/6) with BrdU (0.8mg/ml) in drinking water during E10-E16. and then switch to normal water drinking afterward. Although the females drank the BrdU water ~8ml/day and could deliver pups, they kept eating pups or didn't take care of them. Thus the pups always died on the first day. The same things happened four times so I'm prettey sure this issue has something to do with the BrdU feeding. These females used to deliver ~8pups/litter and always took good care of them before I started the BrdU feeding experiment. The females didn't look like dehydrated so I don't think they were stressed by dehydration. Anyone has experience on the BrdU feeding or injection during pregnancy?  Thanks!
