To test cell cytotoxicity at different time points in the same sample, is Invitrogen’s Alamar Blue (non-toxic) a better alternative to the MTTassay by Sigma/Millipore/R&D Systems/Promega etc? Has anybody else tried it?
Better? Pass ... an alternative for sure. But if you are concerned about your budget, note that Alamar Blue is just a propriatory version of Resorcinol Blue ... and guess which is the cheapest.
Alamar blue is an interesting alternative if you want to use a fluorescent method for to measure cytotoxicity. But you can use Alamar blue as colorimetric method too. I recommend you these articles. With best regards
alamarBlue is a non-toxic alternative to the MTT assay, this makes it safer to use and suitable for time course studies. An extra advantage is that it is water soluble, and plates can be read up to 3 days following refrigeration. More information is available via the link...
