I have been cleaning my Hamilton syringe with the cleaning wire provided. It is now bent and does not fit properly back into the case. My attempts of straightening it back up only made it more curved. Does anyone have a tip for how to fix it? How do you deal with these cleaning wires? Use them and throw?
The cleaning wires are very thin and flexible, and hard to straightening .If your problem is some impurities in the needle, try with ultrasonic bath using the same solvent than your samples... it works!.
To clean the body of syringe you can rinse with the same solvent than your samples.

Better get yourself another cleaning wire; it is less expensive than ruining your syringe. Alternatively you may try to replace with ultrasound cleanding (sometimes it works pretty well).
In most cases, a syringe needle becomes clogged after injection into a hot GC inlet due to decomposition of sample components. Therefore, solvent cleaning may be helpful or not ...
One way is using e.g. the Hamilton heating syringe needle cleaning device. At about 300... 400 degree and vacuum, quiete often residues can be removed.
As another option you can order a roll of cleaning wire from Agilent (for cleaning the Transfer capillary for it's HPLC-MSD systems, P/N : G1946-8005).
However, keep in mind, microliter syringes are a tool in ultratrace analysis in GC. Maybe it's a better idea to replace such accessory at a price close to 15 or 30 min of a scientist's work...
