i am using cadence virtuoso tool 45nm technology for designing LC oscillators with 100MHz oscillating frequency, i wanted to do layout for my design but if I take LC components from analoglib , i can't use them in the layout. so, I thought of designing oscillator using LC components available in the gpdk45nm technology. I tried to design oscillator by using resm1, nmoscapv1 and ind_s(center tap inductor) but the circuit is not oscillating. please provide me some suggestions regarding this issue.
The Task is not suitable for the 45nm GPDK. Few guide lines:
- Check in IEEE-Xplore for publications which deal with the Oscillators of the range of few 100 MHz.
- You will find out that they usually employ Off-Chip components as L and C too, because on the chip the Thomson formula of the resonance frequency will be satisfied by too big in geometry L and C. That is huge waste of Silicon and the performance in sense of stability of the frequency is pretty poor.
- On 45nm CMOS GPDK the Oscillators are mostly successful on frequency ranges in general above 5GHz and below 20GHz, with the best performance achieved in the range of 12-16 GHz.
- If you want anyway to use the 45nm CMOS GPDK then consider using off-chip Capacitors from Murata and off-chip Inductors from Coil-Craft. Both manufacturers have very precise Models for each of their components.
