I want to know the influence of HRQOL on the utilization of primary care services, in a multi-adjusted linear regression model.
In order to assess the five dimensions of EuroQol-5D as an independent variable, I would choose the continuous expression (with the index-EQ5D through TTO technique), but I do not know in a statistical sense if it´s better to consider it as a policotomical variable, as it was described by the authors. Can anyone help me?

The answer strongly depends on your research question. The EQ-5D index is a preference-based measure and represents the utility that the general public.associates to a particular health state. The index is indirectly constructed by integrating a health-state descriptive system (the 5 questions of EQ-5D constitutes a health vector) with a TTO valuation system as you correctly mentioned. If your interest is in understanding how patients' self-reported health affects your study outcome, I would use dummies coded from the health-destriptive system.

I gather that since there do seem to be on point (i.e., "nerdy") answers it really means something to someone, it may really mean something. One of the nascent problems with science is that we seem to be devolving into tiny clusters of nerds who love our jargon and can't communicate with other nerds. Maybe it is a reaction to a larger deconstruction of our civilization while we seem to have an upper hand, what with technology. and all.

I meant "polytomous", but I did an unfortunate direct traslation of our spanish term ("policotómica")
