I would like to ask you if anyone has experience with the fixation of whole rat organs (heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, brain, testes) in 10% buffered formalin.

Yes, i did it with the heart but i was' nt satisfied by the results. the external layers were over fixed when the most inertanl layers were not fixed enough, so i advice you to avoid do the same.I think the best way to get a good fixation is to cut your organs into many pieces then put them in buffered formalin for short time (48h).
Unless the organ is very small, entrance of reagents into the organ is quite difficult and it would never be homogenenos. I agree with Nadia Regouat.
Should be fine in 10% formalin if not left for more than 48hrs. Then paraffin embed to store
