We need to replace our pipetting robot, which took about 2 hours to pipette qPCR reactions in a 384-well plate. We are currently thinking of buying multi-channel electronic pipettes and fill the plate by hand. Does anyone has good experience with such pipettes or other robots?
Things to consider:
-cost of the pipettes/robot
-time to pipette a plate
-minimize loss of reagents, mostly master mix (SYBR Green) and samples due to needed dead volumes for the pipetting
-of course, accuracy of the pipetting!

1. If your template RNAs/DNAs to be added into 384 wells plate are extracted or collected in 96 wells plate then you may use 12-channel pipette and it will take not more than 30 minutes for template addition.
2. For mastermix dispensing, you may use 1 column of 12 wells plate or strip and predispense mastermix into 12 wells and use 12-channel pipette to dispense your mixture at appropriate volume to multiple columns of 384 plate with same tips quickly.
Wow! 2 hours is a long time.
We use a FlowBot One to transfer 4 x 96-well viral extracts to a single 384-well PCR plate. It is very versatile and accurate. You are welcome to contact us to discuss pros and cons. Much faster and more accurate than manual, but way more expensive!
We also use an Integra Assist Plus for transfer from sample tubes to 96-well plate.

With this, you can transfer DNA from 4 96wells-plates in one 384-plate.
