They charge publication fees (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journal_of_Visualized_Experiments), they charge universities for subscription. Pretty much as any other standard publication. In terms of quality of production, you can judge. The impact factor is low, so it's pointless. The videos are not available on standard platforms (e.g. Youtube, Vimeo). How are you going to share these videos on social platforms if you did not opt for open source publication (which costs more)? So in general, not good.
