In my electrospinning setup, I used to produce fibers from PCL (polycaprolactone) on a rotating drum. My solvent is made up of Dimethylformamide (DFM) and Tetrahydrofuran (THF). Recently, whatever is produced is like powders deposited on rotating drum instead of fibers. I want to create alligned fibers with PCL but I cant. Is there any suggestion or recommendation?

One of the key factor for creating the fibers using electrospinning is the viscosity of the solution. Usually the problem you addressed is because of low level of viscosity which can be caused by low concentration of the polymer in the solution. But if you got fiber from this concentration before, another effective factor regarding viscosity can be temperature.
But generally if viscosity is not the case, probably the voltage is high.

Dear Moien Zarei, I used to have nice results until my materials were finished and I ordered the new same one. now, I could not have former good fiber at the end of the day. I'll focus more on concentration to see what will happen. also, the temperature is almost fixed with a temperature stabilizer instrument. BTW, thanks a lot for your precise piece of information.

Optimizing drum rotation speed, voltage and concentration are important factors to obtain a good fiber. With respect to other friends who have answered this question, the problem of fiber pulverization can probably be due to the low concentration of the solution, in my opinion, with increasing the percentage of PCL in the solution, the viscosity increases and the problem is solved to some extent. On the other hand, reduce the voltage and speed of the syringe pump to have an optimal mode for these three factors. I do not recommend adding crosslinker as it can cause the solution to gel and stick to the syringe. Searching for Taylor cone optimizations can also be helpful. Yours sincerely
