Effect of Calcite contactor on pH and alkalinity?

What will be the effect of calcite contactor on water pH and alkalinity? Water hardness after passing through calcite contactor will raise, can we say the same thing for alkalinity and pH as well? my understanding is probably not for all the cases.appreciate any thoughts and comments on this.
