Does the difference in the molecular formula of the molecules play into the nature of the results? In other words, does the difference in the molecular formula lead to a difference in the results for the same substance due to the difference in the molecular weight? I have a substance, but it is of two types, i.e. the first type has a different molecular weight than the second. If I use one of them or replace it instead of what was mentioned in the previous research, will this lead to different results? Or is the weight of the material the most important?
It surely does has a difference,
you can compare polyacrilamide (PAM) with different Mw values, for instance. It’s the same polymer (polyacrilamide), but the viscosity, and many other properties changes due to the Mw change.
I don’t know about about which kind of material you are talking to, but if you’re thinking about small molecules the molecular weight will also play a role when it comes to characterization and maybe reactions since theres is a relationship between the molar ratio and molar weight when we are comparing reactions. (1 mol of any substance is the sum of all the elements in the molecular formula).
