I want to prepare dilute solution of Poly acrylic acid with added salt by using carbonate-bicarbonate buffer at pH around 9. I have prepared the buffer solution of pH 9 with concentration 0.2 M. Can I use the same to prepare the PAA solution ?And if I change my pH from basic to acidic should I maintain the same concentration through out ? Mostly I will study the effect on hydrodynamic radius by scattering method..
I don't think it will have any effect; this may however depend on the type of buffer. I would suggest you provide more information as to the type of buffer you are using.

my understanding is: in basic solution (pH 9 or higher) this polyacid will be in the form of an anionic polymer. However, at low pH , in acidic buffers it will be in the form of polyacid. It all depends on what you want to do with this solution.
Thank you sir once again. It is very valuable information. I will be studying the pH effect on the polymer conformation. I could also see at neutral pH PAA behaves as fully charged polymer. I have made the buffer pH ~9 with 0.2 M sodium carbonate and 0.2 M sodium bicarbonate. My question is that if I make TRIS buffer of pH ~7 for comparison should I take same concentration of TRIS ( 0.2M TRIS) ?
I have the feeling that PAA will be in the anionic form at neutral or basic pH regardless of the identity of the buffer. Some of the many carboxyl groups of PAA give up their hydrogens as ions.
