We know that in the CRISPR Cas9 system, sgRNA and cas9 together cleave/silence/block/bind areas of interest in the genome. However, would sgRNA alone (without the cas9) be able to Target the gene of interest?. It need not silence/delete it. Would the sgRNA stick to the area of interest in the genome?

Single-guided RNA (sgRNA) needs CRISPR associated protein 9 (Cas9) for DNA sequence targeting: Cas9 recognizes the protospacer adjacent motif (PAM) and helps with unwinding of DNA.

Cas9 enzyme guides sgRNA to the target site in the genome, without the Cas9 enzymes sgRNA will not be able to guide 'itself' to its specific target site.
