Hi all, I am working on a rice gene and trying to see if the gene can rescue Abrabidopsis mutant. I used maize ubiquitin promoter to drive gene over-expression in rice. I am not sure if the same construct also works for arabidopsis or I should use the 35S or gene native promoter to make the construct for ababidopsis. Any suggestions? Thanks very much.

Native promoter is best for rescue. Zm UBI promoter does function in Arabidopsis (we have tested recently) but it will overexpress the gene, which may give additional phenotype.

Usually the promoter among plants works fine, I suggest to check the regulatory elements in the ZmUBI promoter and make the comparison with AtUBI promoter.
