Even after publishing you should examine carefully the publisher’s copyright rules before this kind of action. Generally there is a time frame for sharing it publicly in any other way (including RG, Academia, Mendeley etc).

@Stephen I. Ternyik and @Paul Olusegun Bankole RG can also serve as a publishing platform to disseminate your research, hence establishing copyright. So if a third party is using RG and tries to steal your idea. At least you have a "paper trail" or "breadcrumbs" showing that you published or were working on this first. Without a breadcrumbs, it comes down to he said vs he wrote.

I think research work, one may float one’s idea on RG, may be as a project and seek opinion from researchers in the initial phase.

After receiving inputs, one may refine the research work and look for publication.

This way, a researcher may get lot of good suggestions.
