Out of curiosity, I would like to know whether any chemical coating on a substrate change its color when de-ionized water touches it. Precisely, if I pass some water through a microchannel in which some parts are chemically modified, then, will those modified parts undergo some color change leaving uncoated microchannel?

Deionized water is corrosive towards most metals, mainly because of its oxygen content. The formation of a corrosion product layer can be one cause of color changing.
