I am preparing for evaluation of canine ID's and I am wondering if I can use the same protocol for PI staining as for bull's sperms. Thank you kindly for any suggestions.
yes, it works. You could also use it associated to carboxyfluorescin or similar. Live/dead viability sperm kit works too, but they swim fast and are difficult to count. The old method (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0093691X97000666) worked fine
Yes, it can be used with same protocol similar to bulls. I use 2.4mM solution most of the times. It works for both manual microscopy and flow cytometry.

PI works fine in most species. I have personally used it in exotic species as well as more common domestic species. It's also useful in teaching protocols.
