Can traces of Ficoll impact absorbance A260/230 during RNA extraction?
Basically, does Ficoll absorb at 230 nm? We can't find this information as we blame Ficoll for the low A260/230 in some of our samples.

Possibly a silly answer, but could you try running a sample of just Ficoll?(presumably you're using NanoDrop). Looking at the absorption spectrum might quickly give you your answer.
Hi Sam Siljee, I am working with Ondrej on RNA extractions. We tried it out and can see that Ficoll absorbs at 230 nm. Below you can see absorption spectra of ficoll (1x; diluted 1:10; 1:100) - measured on NanoDrop. Thanks for your idea :)
