I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to help me with regards to my data set on SPSS!
I was checking for multivariate outliers via the standardised residuals ('Linear Regression function') which gives a ZRE_1 score for each participant.
However, one participant did not have a ZRE_1 score but instead had a '.' I was wondering if anyone knew what this meant / how to deal with it? I have checked the responses provided by this participant and it all seems to be correct.

The period (".") in a SPSS data sheet signifies a missing value. I'd wager that the case in question was missing scores on at least one of the variables involved in the regression analysis.

David Morse Thank you so much for the feedback! You’re absolutely right, as the participant in question was missing data on a particular subscale. However, I did code this as missing during the data cleaning process - does this not make a difference with regards to whether the ‘.’ appears? Many thanks again for your help!
Evelina Shrieve , where the '.' appears might be connected with the way you calculate scores. Using compute normally returns a '.' is any of the values needed to calculate the score is missing. So 'COMPUTE A = Var01 +Var02 +Var03' would return '.' (missing) if any Var0x is missing.
This can be avoided (but usually not recommended) by using 'COMPUTE = SUM.y(Var01,VAR02,VAR03). y is the number of variable allowed to be missing. In this case (using SUM), I would really not use it,. When calculating a mean, you might try MEAN.y(VAR01,VAR02,VAR03). It makes more sense, but still not recommended. If Var01 is missing, the mean will be (VAR02+VAR03)/2.
