I am supposed to have new species of Chironomidae for Moldova according to Fauna Europaea database, but I want to be completely sure and looking for any papers concerning Chironomidae for this country. Could you help me?
I don't mean describing new species but just a faunistic note on new species for the country (never recorded before in Moldova) - they are well known and easy to distinguish. According to Fauna Europaea they have never been recorded in Moldova. But when searching in Google – I can't see much, so if know about any please let me know.
That are species recoreded by us from Moldova streams:
Glyptotendipes barbipes
Chironomus plumosus-type
Cladotanytarsus sp. group mancus
Cricotopus bicinctus
Cricotopus intersectus-type
Cricotopus laricomalis-type
Cryptochironomus obreptans agg.
Endochironomus albipennis
Microchironomus deribae
Orthocladius cf. frigidus
Paratendipes albimanus
Polypedilum cf. scalaenum
Polypedilum convictum
Rheocricotopus chalybeatus
Thienemannimyia- type
all from larval stage. According to FE bold one should be new for Moldova, but we have found in Toderash monograph - luckyly avialable in our library - that P. convictum and P. albimanus have been previously recorded from Moldova. If you have this publications that you mentioned, I would be very appraciated for some photocopies, scanes or pdf files.
Kyrill Toderash is not taxonomist, I know him from 1980 like perfect ecophysiologist.
As well - Vitaliy V. Polishchuk and Irina G. Harassevitch - more correct. As well note interesting book by Polishchuk 1974 Hydrofauna of down reaches of the Danube in the limits of the Ukraine (just keep in my hands - present of Polishchuk). I new all these scientists personally, even participated in common expeditions... , and were good friends. May be I even have some PDF copy of the last book. about previous not sure, possible that some copy had been done by one of my post-graduates.
Thank you very much for your help, if you would have some pdf files or scanes of this books or at least fragments concerning Moldova I would be very happy if you could send me them on my e-mail address: [email protected] This email box receive 100 MB attachments, I have also Dropbox account so wy may exchange files this direction as well.
Sure Mateusz, I will try to help you, because both books enough rare. As to the question, I'm not adherent of political approaches for the fauna parting in biogeography. In my country such thing like "the Ukrainian Carpathians" is sometimes using between scientists. I recommend tham the ukrainian part of the Eastern Carpathians. Or for water creatures - the Prut basin, the Tisa river basin. Anyway, we cannot avoid smtms necessity as in Red Books, because in conservation measures in some cases hardly to go out of the borders.
Chironomids in Polishchuk books have been identified by girls-laborants from his team, and they are not so qualified... So, take care with rare species. Garassevitch is a hydro-chemist – enough good specialist. As well the data of microzoobenthos are wery good, especially1985 as had been done under guidence Natalia Kovalchuk (look RG).
I attach the list of species + Reference from Polishchuk & Garassevitch book previously discussed. May be my colleagues Viktor and Dmitry have it , so will be present for Mateusz. I had several troubles during scanning as book publication is of bad quality, this leads to negative result when tried to make PDF. But I corrected it in FineReader and DJVU appeare not bad. Now seeking for Toderash. Put somewhere into "useful" place.
I think I have Toderash main dessiderate in paper in our library. This week I will put here reference to this book that you could check do you mean the same or different book.
