All of the features on DNASIS MAX aren't entirely necessary but the program I'm looking for must be able to perform complementation, translation, restriction sites, alignment (proteins, DNA), and motif searches. DNASIS MAX has a very efficient motif search ability. We have the DNASIS MAX program on hard copy for our PC but we have recently acquired a new Macbook Pro and we're trying to get all the software that we have on our PC onto this new Mac. I haven't been able to find a program similar to DNASIS MAX for Mac. I've come across a few that have some of the things that I'm looking for but leave out others. I need an all-in-one program.

I have used Geneious for a number of years now, having used Lasergene before that. Geneious is an all-in-one package.
We have Geneious but the motif search in Geneious is really quite a hassle compared to the ease of DNASIS and we're having a hard time finding any program on the market, free or otherwise, to perform this function as well as DNASIS. In DNASIS, you're able to copy/paste 10 (or however many) sequences in the same exact window (without having to save each sequence, I might add), stacking them and performing your alignment then and there, and well as translating the sequences and having the amino acids annotated right there on the sequences, per codon, in the same window. Furthermore, when you went to search for motifs, all you had to do was click for motif search and it did it for you. Searched through all motifs and annotated the sequences accordingly. From my understanding, if you want Geneious to search through motifs all at once like DNASIS, you have to create your own databases of protein motifs or DNA motifs and then have Geneious search through what you've created.
CLC Genomics Workbench is very expensive and it's smaller brother CLC Main Workbench has all those functions that you've mentioned. And the company also offers cheep solution for students.
I had used VNTI before CLC, and it is also excellent and comprehensive but it is so expensive that Quiagen can not be serious about it.
