I am looking to develop a system which should be able to distinguish between different injected liquid drugs. These drugs will be mainly injected during the surgery in operation theaters.This is not my field so I am not familiar with these drugs to name them, but I know they are limited to maximum 50 different types.
The whole idea is to have a system which can detect the type of the medicine by examining samples of that liquid. There is no limitation on the device size but the processing time should be less than 30 seconds.
Is there any chemical sensor for this purpose? Is it possible to find some chemical properties and then use a trained computer system to classify that?

In line FTIR is probably a better idea as it is much faster. Given that you are not dealing with particularly complex mixtures the IR spectra should give a read out that can establish identity.
Are we talking about the pure, undiluted drug or an injectable solution?
For a reliable and quick FTIR or Raman identifikation you will need the drug pure or in a relative high concentration (percentage range). Other solutions for your discriminationproblem might be IMS, or direkt inlet MS-technologies like DART (not cheap and not really practical). You might also investigate electronic tongues:

Would suggest FTIR or Raman provided you do not have them in a trace concentration. For sensitivity, would go for LCMS.
The FTIR is a good option, mesaure could be done in situ in few seconds.
