Most of the literature refers to increased troponin in serum as a biomarker but I am interested in knowing if decreased levels in the heart indicates disease.
No, I fear there isn't. I became interested in the topic while searching for a radiolabeled troponin for imaging in different types of heart failure. Troponin is only found in cardiac cells and if we would be able to label troponin only cardiac tissue should be visible. It is challenging because troponin is only found intracellularly. Fred
I do not know if Troponine might be decreased in some forms of DCM. Nevertheless, we measured BNP at rest and after exercise. In some patients we found a decrease of BNP after exercise we could not explain. We wondered if there might be a sort of "BNP"-deficit...
Dear Rachael i am afraid i havent come across any evidence that is suggestive of Trop reduction in context of DCM. Trop could indeed be significantly raised in a a wide variety of DCM such as Ischemic cardiomyopathy, Hypertrophic CM, Cardiac Sarcoid/Amyloid & Vasculitis with Cardiac Involvement etc as i am sure you must be aware.
