The consequences of acute insulin-induced hypoglycemia include behavioral changes due to an insufficient supply of the brain with glucose (neuroglycopenic symptoms). Such changes include amongst others changes in mood (depressed, as well as elevated mood) or aggressive behavior. Especially among children or adolescents the intentional inducing of hypoglycaemia sometimes is described as an unusual or conspicuous behavior in dealing with diabetes (seeking for hypoglycemia). But this aspect is rarely described in literature. Does anyone know a paper or case reports on seeking for hypoglycemia? What could be possible explanations for this behavior? Should this aspect explicitly be addressed in parent training or diabetes education?
