I'm trying to find a simple table top cytometer to do some basic flow cytometery. Many of the models are out of my current budget. Does anyone have any experience with the Accuri C6 cytometer?
I do. I have experience working with BD Accuri, Canto, LSR Fortessa and also Beckman Coulter Cyan ADP. As to Accuri, it does what it promises to do. As someone who went from the more sophisticated machines to Accuri (switched from academia to industry), it took some adjustment. But as a simple table top cytometer to do some basic flow cytometry, it would be a good choice.
Now to a few unique features. The one we had only did 4 colors but I think you can go up to 6 now. The setup is simple and all you have to do is run the tubes through the machine. You can set the threshold but that is about it. No setting up voltages or anything. The graphs go up to 10e7 and so you almost never miss seeing your populations. If you do, then you have to go back and titrate the antibody.
Also, if you need to have it serviced, you need to pack the machine up and send it away. They don't come in and do it. To minimize problems, you need to make sure that the machine is cleaned and maintained properly. You can't run bleach through it. I also vaguely remember something about BD's plans to phase Accurri out and not provide maintenance/service contracts in a few years. So talk to a BD rep and make you are properly supported if you decide to purchase an Accuri.
