I'm thinking to buy this microscope (including the new objective HCX IRAPO L 25x/0.95 W) for my electrophysiology rig because technically it seems to have many advantages, but I have never used it before.
I have been working previously with a Olympus BX51WI.
That looks really good and with the emphasis they place on electrophysiological application, I don't think you can go wrong.
I was going to mention the need for smooth operations on filter switching and objective switching, but it looks like they have that under control and that you won't loose your seals switching filters or objectives.
I would consider that microscope (I am still happy with an old NIkon 600 FN also designed for physiology).

I have one of these in my lab that I bought as a replacement for an old Leica DMLFS microscope. The 25x objective with multiplied lens works better than the 40x I had on my old scope for depth of field. The nose piece objective change over is rather slow but that's a minor irritation.

What are your thoughts on the main advantages over a BX51 WI? It looks as if you can have the option to have more than two objectives loaded on the scope (that's a minor advantage). Leica optics are usually pretty nice. I would guess Leica is a more expensive, particularly with DIC however I'm not familiar with Leica's DIC. I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

I guess that 2 objectives are enough for electrophysiology, aren't it?. Regarding the advantages, if you have a look to the link posted by Olivier above, the main advantages are 1) high resolution objective with a excellent long working distance (2.5 mm) that make easier the access of the pipette and 2) almost everything (objectives changes, light, fluorescence...) can be controlled externally, reducing the interference (vibrations) with the recording. In addition, if 25X objective is not enough magnification, the microscope includes motorized magnification changers (up to 4X additionally).
This is what I take from the brochure, however I have never used this microscope and this is why I opened this post. To get comment from people that have already tried this microscope.
Two is enough for most people. Yeah the 25x looks like the biggest advantage: you get about 500µm more working distance than the Olympus 20x and 800 µm more than the Zeiss. Apart from that it looks like a motorised BX 51WI. External control is nice, if you want to pay for it.
I am thinking to purchase a Zeiss Axio Examiner for brain slice patch clamp. Is this Zeiss scope Ben referred to? If working distance of Zeiss is too short, I may have to reconsider something else.
