Do bacterial infections such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, or any other infection increase the acidity in a system? If so, what is the mechanism involved in this increase in acidity?
It depends completely on the infectious organism. If they ferment then the answer is yes- there will be an increase in acidity. One such mechanism is lactic acid fermentation. This is common especially in anerobic organisms as they typically acquire energy via fermentation as opposed to respiration.
