Which approach do you take? After writing my article, I chosed the journal which published a relevant article from my references; however, the journal uses a very different format. Do you choose the journal first to follow manuscript guidelines and format, or write first then adapt the manuscript ?

I do this because it is often in the writing process, and particularly writing the discussion based on the findings, that the true value of the paper is determined. My team does not always know the main points of the discussion and conclusions until after the writing process has begun and the ideas are fully synthesized. Only after those things are finalized do we select a suitable journal.

It depends. Sometimes it is usefull to find the journal first. Although it depends on the topic you want to write about. I agree with Michael that you don't always know the main points of the discussion and conclusions until after the writing process has begun. Thus in most of the cases you choose the journal after you write your manuscript.

With the use of electronic referencing systems, it's not difficult to change the reference section format. Hence, you can finish the initial sketch and then select the journal.

According to logical sequence, I always write my articles or papers as a draft then choosing appropriate journal and follow this selected journal strategy or style to reform my publications.

The most important step to publish an article is the existence of the raw material (results), after you have to write the manuscript of a standard form with all the necessary sections (summary, introduction, method, theory, ... conclusion). The final step is to look for the journal that fits your field of research.

Before I start writing the article I must have an idea about the journals where I will submit my paper there is some journals that need specials presentation style
As per my view, writing the paper is the foremost thing then find the right journal for publication.
Articles & journals both are important as it is a message of your writing & publication for the journal which has his own identity . With this for the publication selection of the journal is very much important before selecting the journal we have to verified first his standing period of publication & the name with the journals has established.
Besides apart from standing of the journal we have to find his reputation ,the contributory articles of the publication with the identity of authors & last but not the least the review of readers regarding the publication .
It s desirable that if we have our own name & as a publisher , we should verified the first standing of the journal as indicated as above

Think is up to individual preference. Last time I used to write the article first before selecting the journal later. But recently in the process of writing articles - during certain break intervals, I will explore / browse through what are the potential journal(s) I want to submit - reason being with the journal requirement & target readers (reviewers / editors) in mind, this can help me to target my writing accordingly.
i think the writing first is better because journals available any way .
I am finding it easier to select a journal first as each journal has its own specific requirement and focus. But I also presume this depends on one´s subject matter.
