I have a bitter experience on this type of software as it grabs even the names of cities and towns stated in some other papers as if some copied words. This may be by default.
I had the same experience. Certainly not foolproof. So perhaps I should overcome that by only scanning 'Abstracts until Conclusion'. Even references might be considered plagiarized, that's the computer doing it's duty as a machine without a heart or mind!

For me there is a problem connetedt with plagiarism...we all know that creativity comes from existing knowledge or past experiences. Then i think the problem of "plagiarism " is that a person does not know how to transform that knowledge or apllied it in other fields.
Thus, it can be said that anyone who does plagiarism is like saving efforts, but appreciate what's done, so that he repeated, like an echo. Takes the role of followers of the products, and does not take the role of the niches, those who are different because they create something different from the leaders.
in real life and in terms of market usually wins the leaders!
People will be supporting each other, and this also explains group formation.
So here is the question: why we reject much the plagiarism, but accept who repeats as a robot its leaders?
Not a prove, but a good place to start from a good research about that. It is good to see what Miranda very well stated above. We have to cautious with how these software treat citations and references.
I may add my thread with many answers including plagiarism software tools, real examples...! There was a strong discussion on plagiarism software checkers!
Dear @Profs and friends, I was busy the whole evening finishing a paper that I collaborate with an RG friend. Then I scanned the paper with Viper, a free version of Turnitin. The plagiarism was at 3%. Viper allows 30% knowing that even the parts that I have re-written and cited would be highlighted as 'plagiarised'.
(By the way, the spelling should be "foolproof". "Full proof" is a term used for math problems that I used to solve in the old-fashioned way and wrote Q.E.D. Thanks.)
Being positive, like Vilemar, Helena, Ljubomir etc, I always find GREAT SATISFACTION to re-phrase, paraphrase and reduce the plagiarism to 30%. Whoever says that plagiarism must be 0% hasn't used Viper!
Plagiarism software is a good software for Research work. But in some cases it creates a huge problem in paper writing. Some words to be modified by various ways. Suppose Bangalore is a sampling site. So it explain as Bangalore city. But in another paper on this sampling site, it can catch in Plagiarism software. So it is very big problem. Therefore Plagiarism software is not a proof software.
I don't think so. As per my understanding, plagiarism checking softwares identify certain plagiarism content with respect some databases. Many of the plagiarism softwares fail to detect the similarity between two contents if the words and sentences are changed without changing the meaning.
