The American writer, Robert Louis Stevenson, once said to develop a personal writing style, one should act as a " diligent ape". He portrayed that novice writers should read authentic texts, but should pay close attention to the features of the text. By imitating original writers for some time, the writer would eventually develop his/her own writing style. No doubt, excellent English language skill is an added advantage. It is always true that a universal language of science is required for communication with other scientists anywhere in the world. The English has become almost exclusively as the language of science as evidenced from the vast scientific literature (published in English). But the use of correct English in scientific communications may be a problem for those researchers who are not from English speaking countries or completed education in the native languages.

I think the scientific contents should be given primary importance in the evaluation of a scientific manuscript. A manuscript is not supposed to be rejected only due to language problem and this is not usually done. The language errors always can be improved by the constructive criticisms and suggestions.

However, that is not enough; we cannot recommend all native English researchers. Hence, To become a scientific researcher, with excellent English language, another skills such as open mind and scientific thinking ability, the ability to work independently, IT skills also are very essential. The ideas are worth more than the good English, but surely, the language can be improved by a friend who could proof-read the paper before submitting it.

I always apologize to a new class for my accent and bad English, but I know there are many who claim they speak better. One of them was my daughter's professor: I asked her how was his English and she said she thought he was speaking Chinese throughout the lecture!!

In the final analysis there is no language like "English". Modern research has shown convincingly that absolutely all "English" words are Greek in origin, some so ancient than even the Greeks could not recognize.

It would be very good if there were a "universal language" that could meet the longings of world scientific communication. Each language has its riches and forms of writing. Unfortunately the English language (mainly of the United States) achieved supremacy and most of the groups of publications practically only accept works in this condition.

If there is a language specialist in RG, who can suggest a universal and easy writing, please help us? Does Latin fit into this?

Anyway, while we do not get a solution we have to settle for this "linguistic prison".

Since English is an universal language we can use it as a key to open the “scientific research door”.

It is not so, for good research one needs to have a good brain. English language will help you in leaning and expressing your research to the international community.

Research is beyond any language barrier.

But certain platforms like RG and others where the official language is English.....the readability of your article definitely decrease due to lack of other language skills. in that case you can always put a translated version of your research work to be more accessible to more people.

I think scientific content should be paramount in assessing a scientific manuscript. The manuscript should not be rejected simply because of a language problem, and this is not usually done. Many magazines are tolerant of the authors and make language corrections themselves. But there are also ones that are very punctual to styling and linguistic composition. I think it is necessary to present an abstract in English, and the insisting State must defend its own language and allow it to be expressed in languages ​​other than English. Agreed having good command of English have an upper hand at scientific research door. But once we cross the door, other factors become more significant e.g. research area, quality of content, researcher's efforts, passion, perseverance etc.

I personally think that language skill has a significant effect on the acceptance of a scientific paper for a journal.

English language skilled is definitely the key factor along with other compulsory requisites of research as English is the media factor to go one language to another and to make a bridges of thoughts , analyses the references materials and to assess others works as a whole.

But Once I think and its proved that technical education and to educate the people and make them prudent in different skills, mother language is the best. Examples are China, Japan and France.

The researcher can produce a work which is readable and interpretable. People all over the world can make use of the information incorporated in a research which is written in good and appropriate language.

In one word "YES"!

Without English proficiency it is difficult to excel, particularly in the education industry where you have to speak yourself in-front of your audience rather than hiring an interpreter. No, mater in which part of the world you are living, without English language the survival is difficult when it comes to education related activities. There is enough literature available in other languages as well, however, one day all of it has to be translated in order to let rest of the world read it easily.

And being a non-English speaking researcher, you have to pay the price for it, in case you are incapable to write good English, which is in many cases. Also, I believe all impact factor journals require a certificate from non-English speaking authors that their article is proofread by an approved English proofreading service provider.

For the purpose of scientific communication, English is more appropriate than others. But this situation can not be generalized to all countries, some prefer French or German to English, and depending on the spread of that language in these areas

There is no doubt that mastering English language is an important factor that enhances the scientific and scholarity of the article. but no one can denied the skill of writing-up and the ability to express and describing scientifically the phenomenon...

Sincere thanks to everyone for information/discussion in this nice question.

Excellent English in writing is one of the most important factors for expressing own ideas/findings of research work. But, its importance cannot be compared with the novelty of the research. I think while considering two extreme cases: consideration for acceptance/ rejection of research paper is based on its novelty rather than excellent English. I believe novel work can’t be rejected on the basis of its poor English and excellent English without much novelty is more likely to be not acceptable. For the first case (novel work with poor English), journals provide some/different option(s) to improve by self or through the help of others (such as English speaking peoples) but for the second case (excellent English with poor novelty) journal does not provide anything.

Many standard/ good impact journals provide additional facilities (online supports) for improving English writing. Such steps taken by journals not only means that writing good English is necessary for publication in their journals but also means that they do not want to reject your novel works just because of poor English. So, the golden key goes to novelty first.

It's all about the quality of our work (content), after that, the language plays a critical role.

For example, I have noticed that sometimes your work can be accepted in a prestigious journal because it sounds good. After acceptance, they may ask you to polish all linguistic matters for better clarity to the reading community.

The principal reason for rejection is the content (design & presentation), not merely the language.
