You should at least use two sgRNAs to delete essential elements of the promoter. However, you can not predict whether there is still some transcriptional activity left. Therefore, if you are not studying the promoter,

deleting a promoter proximal exon (resulting in a frame shift),

generating InDels that may generate a frame shift,

or introducing a stop codon by HDR may be the preferred ways to go.
