Does anyone know of a database that exists for all currently known and mapped submarine landslides that could then be applied for use in the development of a GIS map?
Or alternatively, where regional information/ databases could be acquired in order to develop a global database for the development of a GIS to map global submarine landslides?
Have you looked at the USGS search webpage? It seems they have some publications and articles related to 'submarine landslide' mostly for US and nearby regions. Alternatively I can imagine you might want to contact the National Landslide Information Center (NLIC) for your query.

Thank you, I shall look into this. I was hoping to find a database that listed known dates of occurance and location coordinates just for spatial mapping purposes.
There is not such a database at global level. However, there are only a few scattered works.
I put this together with some colleagues back in 2007:

this covers the North Atlantic and concerns large (>25 km3) submarine mass movements.
More recently Morelia Urlaub and co-authors published this:

Check out recent publications about tsunamis and submarine slides by USGS scientists Jason Chaytor, Daniel Brothers, Uri tenBrink (and citations within those). Mostly US margin and Caribbean stuff.

I thought there was a paper by M. Urlaub et al. one or two years ago that looked at a large database she assembled for her Ph.D. at Southampton. She is now a GeoMar in Kiel.
There is a special edition of Marine Geology (V 213 - 2004) about the COSTA project. There are several papers but the one from Canals et al. (page 9) has a good review of several submarine landslides.
