Is there any study which has looked into the relationship between boredom and neurotransmitter dopamine availability in the human brain, probably an fMRI procedure?
Really, the link between boredom and dopamine has been studied together with the thrill of psychosis by Sasa Brankovic in Serbia. Look for her here at RG.
Here's my modest contribution to the tiny literature on boredom. And I'm delighted that the ever-omniscient Béatrice Marianne has come up with a lead too.
Thank you so much, I had though to look up what "ever-omniscient" means:). I see that you have studied the problem. Very interesting. Deficient use of symbols has also been claimed to evoke boredom in therapists - as a countertransference. This feeling is easily evoked in the presence of e.g. narcissism.
