I think breathing does affect people's daily activities. In my understanding, breathing connects to your inner self. In other words, you talk to yourself consciously or unconsciously whatever you do. I think this state is more close to a certain flow - a source of energy.
Of course, the flow can be good or bad, hinging on your intentions and your abilities to channel it. That explains why breathing exercises do help. For example, I used to be very anxious in an interview when I was applying for my undergraduate degree, and I could not help breathing anxiously which made my brain thought that I could have a heart attack. So, I could either ace or not ace the interview sessions (n/b: I also think other contextual factors also came into play). However, as I had more relevant experiences in my area of expertise, I found that I was not getting anxious anymore. (Maybe going to the gym and doing breathing exercises on Apple Fitness help too). All in all, I totally agree that doing breathing exercises can shift people's flow.
