Sperm DNA fragmentation is a possible effect associated with the presence of varicocele, due to oxidative stress damage. Varicocele repair is expected to reduce heat and excessive oxidation, resulting in the majority of cases in reduction of sperm DNA damage. Additional factors that should be considered are: the degree of varicocele, male age, sperm chromatin integrity and confounding factors that may also result on DNA fragmentation (habits, exposure to toxicants etc).
