CYCLIC PLATE LOAD TEST: Although #PLT is one of the most misused tests, yet it has significant implications in #Geotechnical Engineering. If the soil is isotropic, homogenous, and consist of a single layer; then the test can be used to determine the #Bearing #Capacity #SBC of the actual #Foundation, taking into account the prototype size conversion and type of #Soil. However, the primary use of PLT is not to use the semi-empirical formulas to estimate the capacity or the settlement of the foundation. Here, we have used a #Cyclic PLT of 615 mm size to #Calibrate the #Constitutive soil #Model (#Hardening Soil with Small-Strain #Stiffness; HS Small) using #3D #FEM analyses #PLAXIS. The calibrated model can be used to estimate the soil behavior of any problems reliably, thereafter. Even when the soil consists of layers, the top layers are calibrated by the PLT, while the other layers are calibrated by other means (e.g., #Pile load test). See below how magically HS Small model captures the #Nonlinear behavior of the soil and matching well the test result.
