I recently performed tail-vein injection of human CRC cells in Scid mice. Normally IV injection of human CRC cells leads to lung metastases, but in this case I found nothing in the lung but massive kidney tumors instead. Could someone help explaining why this tumor seeding bypassed the lung?
What is the duration of experiment?
1.If it is short time probably lungs didn't had enough time to develop tumors
2. Your cells might not have receptors or signaling which favor lung metastasis.
Is it kidney tumor or adrenal gland tumors?

1. I sacrificed the animals 6-8 weeks after the injection as most became moribund.
2. The proteins (both ligand and receptor) that i'm interested in are expressed in both lung and kidney (though I am not sure what levels of expression, I will check on that). So maybe other factors and signalings are involved as you suggested.
It is kidney tumors (in two mice so far). I have more mice to sacrifice in the next few weeks, I will pay close attention to the adrenal glands.
