Iron absorption is really a typical phenomena and which is not well explored. I want any animal model or in vivo/ in vitro method by which we can determine % Fe absorption from any natural or functional food.
In In-vitro absorption people are generally trying two approaches
1. Through Caco-2 cell
2. measure of solubility after each stage of digestion (Gastric and intestinal digestion) means presence of iron in supernatant of digesta with compromise of free iron (ferrozine method)
In in-vivo
two approaches
1. apparent iron absorption (%)= amount of iron given through diet- (fecal iron)/ amount of iron given through diet *100
2. apparent Iron absorption= intragastric administered iron - fecal iron/ intragastric administered iron
