The Inter-American Development Bank study (November 2015) highlighted that the temperature in Haiti could reach up to 1.1° C for the 2030s; 1.9° C for the 2050s and 3.3° C for the end of the century (2081-2100). The 2030s will be up to 6% drier and the reduction in rainfall in the country could reach 20% in the worst-case scenario by the end of the century. With respect to sea levels, the combined range for projected elevation in all scenarios is 0.26 to 0.82 m by 2100 relative to 1986-2005 levels. There is also an increase in Category 4 and 5 cyclones and an increase in precipitation intensity, associated maximum wind intensity and average rainfall.
Faced with all these future projections, what should be the role of Haitian youth in the short, medium and long term? Are young people a key driver in building resilience through innovative science-based approaches?
