Cleaning disruption beads for DNA isolation?

Hi,

I'm going to be using 0.1mm zirconia/silica beads to break apart my mycobacterial cells so I can extract DNA. Are there any tips for cleaning them?

RPI says " beads can be soaked in a 1:10 dilution of ordinary household bleach (Clorox® or equivalent) for 5 minutes."

but is this sufficient to remove contaminating DNA? and what is the proper drying method?

Hi Kristi,

I'm pretty sure when I've used them before I let them soak in 70% ethanol to disinfect, then rinsed twice with molecular grade water to help remove any DNA.

To leave to dry, I would put them in a petri dish in a laminar flow hood.
