I'm modelling multiple porous zone as concentric rings.
I have following doubts.
My flow is unidirectional along z axis (perpendicular to the concentric rings) and circles are concentric along y axis.
How should I define the directional vector?
Is it necessary to create interface between the porous zones and just leave it as interior?
Do I need to create interface between the normal zone and porous zones?
I'm just calculating the pressure difference across the rings
and calculate inertia and viscous terms (1/alpha and C2)
Do I need to consider any thing other than this

Continuity of dependent variables must be insured beside the continuity of the flux, momentum, heat and mass flux.
if you want to see the gradient through the interface, you should create the interface, then you can couple them, FLUENT can be used for solving that
Generally, you do not have to create any interface between the free and porous region. It is sufficient to assure a continuity condition for the momentum, heat and mass variables. If you define a variable in the whole computational domain (i.e. T, temperature), in most CFD code (i.e. Comsol) the continuity condition is already implemented as default. Otherwise if you wish to consider transport coefficients you have to duplicate the variable of interest in the porous and the free domain and, then, connect them through a proper transport relationship. you do not have to create any interface between the free and porous region. you will assure a continuity condition for the momentum, heat and mass variables.if you want to see the gradient through the interface, you can create the interface and then you couple them; i'm using FLOW-3D to solve the same problems.
In my view If you use the Matlab it is easy to accommodate the variables in one single porous ring then can be applied to the various rings by just putting them in nested loop so that you can address all the porous rings which can be dealt as separately as well as coupled as the conditions exist. These both the cases can be compared which can give details about the inertial and viscous parameters.
