After we have already published our data, we decided to add a new experimental group using a different intervention /condition and we are planning to do a side by side comparison between the old published data with the new unpublished data. Would that be considered self-plagiarism? Or that will be acceptable as long as we cited our previous published paper, especially that will help us to save resources and time, instead of repeating previous experimental groups/conditions.
Yes, data from a previously published paper can be used in a new manuscript, under certain prerequisites, in agreement with the overwhelming majority of the commenters.
Mohamed Aly , I don't advise you to do that, as the experimental setup for the added group will be a new and different one, it is generally recommended that you have all groups compared under the same experimental conditions.

I do not know why Sanaa N did not advise it; however, as you already mentioned, as soon as you cite and give proper references, using your old analysis for comparison purposes might not violate any plagiarism-related issues in a significant way. There are might be some points. For example, try not to copy and paste exact same words, sentences, descriptions and etc. Also, you can minimize the risk by changing the presentation style (from figures to table and etc.).

What is meaning of using data which has already been published ...which is already in public domain ...however for support of present work with reference may be given

If it is an extended work of the previous published work you can use it for comparison and in depth discussion of the result. However, it has to be cited appropriately.

Yes you can but you should say the continuation of … while you start to submit your manuscript for publication and authors should be similar with the first one.
I think yes. you can use same data with different methods and find different result. For instance, in one paper you can make regregression analysis. But, in the second paper you can perform mediation/moderation analysis depending on your purpose. You must make citation.
No duplication of effort, copying and pasting per se is unethical. However, you can consider your earlier work as a lauchpad for taking off to further your work.
So long as you cite sources properly and make it clear that the new work is an extension of the previous work, you are okay, provided you don't copy and paste.
The important thing is do not copy paste, it is unethical. Instead you can use data from previous work as an extension of new work in that line, may be comparison. Or cite with proper reference or use data with proper acknowledgement for further new analysis or estimate for secondary form
I thing you can provided you say the work is not a duplicate or copy and paste.
Data can always be used from a previous paper provided it is in public domain, otherwise permissions need to be sought from the copyright holder. In fact publicly available data is actually preferred in a new paper so that others can verify the results claimed.

As long as the data is properly cited as to source and author(s), there should be no problem. However, it is courtesy to approach the author(s) in writing to seek permission to use their data. I personally had a map of glacial limits never mapped before or even identified as such, which appeared in publications without reference to the source. I may say I was most disappointed. It is unethical to do such a thing.
