I would like to infuse rats with drugs of our interest. However, we also need to keep animal under sedation by administrating pentobarbitol via jugular vein with the help of syringe pump since we are measuring hemodynamics reading for 1 hour. I am wondering if we mix the drug along with sedative and infuse via jugular vein. Thanks
Your question is about pentobarbital (and not about any other sedatives). This drug easily form precipitate with other drugs when mixed. Any factor or condition which tends to lower pH (increase acidity), will increase the likelihood of precipitation of thiopental acid. Such factors include the use of diluents which are too acidic and the absorption of carbon dioxide which can combine with water to form carbonic acid.
Solutions of succinylcholine, tubocurarine or other drugs which have an acid pH should not be mixed with Pentothal solutions. Overall, keep an eye on formation of physical precipitate. This is the main issue when it concerns pentobarbital.
its better to infuse seperatly each of ur drugs, and if u want to infuse with one vein u could use individual syringe pupm and use three way at the end of tube which inter to vein
Depends about the drug you want to infuse, if it has interaction. In the most of cases it has no, but you need to research each one of them.

It is generally better to infuse drugs separately. Depending on the acidity or alkalinity of the drugs that you are using, especially if they will be infused over a long period of time, you would be running the risk of crystals formation or precipitate. Most sedatives come with recommendations from the manufacturer. I would suggest to try to find out directly from them if the drug you would like to mix is safe. But as a general rule, you should not mix drugs.
