I made this foto in our garden last week. Can someone tell me which insect this is (I am no insect specialist)?
Looks like a wasp... but could be a butterfly mimicking a wasp... the photo doesn't show it: does this insect has the specific body of a wasp (thin) - or of a buttefly (thick connection between breast part and abdomen).
This should be it - or at least very clos to it... as I suggested: some butterfly:

EDIT: There are about three similar ones - my guess now would be:
Synanthedon formicaeformis (ESPER, [1783]) - Weiden-Glasflügler
Thanks Robert, I see the butterfly form of breast and abdomen.
It is probably the species Synanthedon culiciformis.
This is a butterfly of the family of Sesiidae, Genus Synanthedon, maybe it is S. stomoxiformis. The Determination of the species is not sure.

Rudolf Ritt
S. culiciformis would be the better solution - I did not see the 2nd photo when I wrote my first answer.
