I need some quality literature on the factors affecting the backscatter method. Particularly when it is used to determine the wet density of the compacted fills containing materials other than the natural soils eg. Steel or Copper slag, Fly ash etc.

Thank you very much, Sir. The document gives a detailed procedure on the use of nuclear gauge for in situ determination of wet density and moisture content. It discusses the effect of crystalline water on the moisture content reading and corrections required for that. But it does not discuss the effect of material chemistry on the measurement of wet density by backscatter of gamma rays. I am concerned with that particular aspect.
