We have stored soil samples here in the refrigerator (temp: 2°C - 8°C) for approximately 4 years ago, I was wondering if I can still use them with hopes to isolate Actinobacteria. I was preferring to somehow get some Streptomyces.
These are air-dried shoreline sediments before being stored in the laboratory's refrigerator.
Any input is appreciated.

Jonathan Tordilla You can check it by experiment only. German researchers ZIPPEL & NEIGENFIND (1988) have not recommended to store streptomycetes in dry soil. But, some others think that Streptomyces spores can stay in dry soil for long time. (Williams, S. T., et al. "Studies on the ecology of actinomycetes in soil—vi. the influence of moisture tension on growth and survival." Soil Biology and Biochemistry 4.2 (1972): 215-225).

Since Streptomyces' spores are very resilient, you can easily isolate these strains through serial dillutions. I have previously isolated them successfully from older soils.
Ariel Mesquita hi Sir! how old are those soils? can you give an estimate? we do have 3 year old soils in 2-8°C
will those soils still have Streptomyces spores?
