I think that the topic regarding nanomaterial-based lubrication systems in automotive sector may be a very interesting future development, that is facilitated by the progress of the nanotechnology in recent years.
In literature, a variety of nanoparticles have been used as lubricant additives with potentially interesting friction and wear properties. Although there has been several experimental research on nanoparticles as lubricating oil additives, many aspects are yet to be fully understood. For example: what types of nanoparticles act as a better lubricating oil additive and why? Some other aspects of their tribological behavior (e.g. dispersion stability and morphology) are also highlighted.
you can think about oxidation resistant, long lasting life, additives, water tolerance, recycling of oils, improvement in TAN , improvement in shelf life, etc.
